I'm writing this as both a Facebook note and blog entry because several of my Facebook friends are in the entertainment industry, and several others are avowed Gleeks.
After watching last night's episode of Glee, an idea that's been bouncing around in this empty head of mine came back to the frontal lobes, where it was accessed by a combination of my conscious and subconscious mind to produce one of those dreams that sticks with you.
It would have to be a season 4 episode, as the story takes place in our club members' Senior year...
Major Mike Corrado, who is both an active duty United States Marine and an accomplished singer/songwriter, portrays a USMC recruiter who visits McKinley High in the hopes of finding "A Few Good Men (and Women)". Several members of the football team, including Puck (Mark Salling) and, to a lesser extent, Finn (Cory Monteith) seem interested, while Rachel (Lea Michelle) does all she can to convince them NOT to enlist. Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison), though respectful of the role the military serves to the country, tends to favor Rachel's attitude, while Coach Sylvester (Jane Lynch) is all for seeing as many as possible go into military service, even so far as advocating the reinstatement of the Draft.
Of course, this being a musical, the argument is played out through various protest and patriotic songs, but it is Major Corrado's anthem for the American fighting man and woman, "On My Watch Tonight", which settles it, convincing the naysayers that, while often tasked with duties some find objectionable, the military is needed to protect the liberties we all enjoy.
While it need not be shown, it is likely that Puck does enlist, as do a few other members of the football team.
Unfortunately, without an agent, I'd never be able to submit it...
That’s my opinion, and I’m sticking to it.
